After reading through a number of emails and due to a thread that mentioned the email disclaimers, I was pondering on the disclaimers. I am sure that most of us have seen some of these sentences at the bottom of an email:

"Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail";

What is the environmental cost on even creating an email. HMMM. What are the resources it takes to even build a computer. This started a search for some info.

The computer itself. 1.8 tons of material to produce a single computer (a laptop may be less) http://archive.unu.edu/update/archive/issue31_5.htm

Seems to me that the printing of the email is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. (and I know this does sound a bit algorish doesn't it (thanks DS)).

"If you have received this e-mail in error, please immediately notify the sender by return e-mail and delete this e-mail from your computer system."

Seriously has anyone ever done this, responded to the person that sent it in error? What about a system, that automatically copies the email to another system and you cannot delete it.

Do you fret over the inability to delete this, or do you just delete the errant email and move on, without notifying the sender that they made a mistake or that their e-mail will never be deleted.

And then when you hit the reply all button, and then reply to everyone again that you did not mean to hit the reply all button. Sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie.

I have read some posts that this is technology related but I would not agree with that assessment. I think it is a symptom of multi-tasking and losing focus for a brief moment. Have a great Friday.
