I think the test of evolution is a persistent biological change that
affects future survival of the species ... for example, if the species
became biologically dependent upon the proteins and other nutrients gained
through consumption of pigeons rather than traditional prey, it would then
REQUIRE that they seek those nutrients in a food source rather than just
choose to eat them because they've figured out how.  Survival of the
species is a dependent factor in evolutionary change rather than simple
mutations or learned/taught behavior.

(Honestly, I really never expected to use my degree in Anthropology while
considering a RM list post ... makes me want to go dig out some of my old
books :) )
