Good afternoon,

I'm curious as to whether anyone in Listserv land has, is, or is considering using the big bucket approach to managing records in SharePoint 2010? We're using the big bucket approach to manage Outlook 2010 email (7 managed folders), and it's working well. So, instead on developing content types for each of 400+ records retention schedules to manage our SP2010 records, we're considering duplicating the 7 managed folders in SP2010 for each of our users and have them create, drag 'n drop, and manage SP2010 records within the appropriate folder (SP2010 calls them Libraries). To me, this simplifies the "retentioning" (sorry, I just made this up) process and eliminates the need for a user to "declare a record" in SP2010, and it ensures that we are with how we are handling email.

This also sounds a little too easy, so please-without flaming too much, help me see what I am missing. I already know some of it; how to handle "work in progress" and reference SP2010 documents, for example, would need to be addressed... hence my post. We have our first records management advisory team meeting of the new year in two weeks where we will discuss this issue in much more detail, but I'd love to hear from anyone (off-list) who is doing something like this, has tried it, or is even thinking about it. Your feedback (good, bad, and/or ugly) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Earl
