Thing must have changed a bunch since Larry and I worked in the industry.  We spent a great deal of time and effort to make sure every drawing, weld test, material cert and NDE result was accounted for.

At the time, the company I worked for was owned by several of the largest NG companies in the country.  They were adamant about maintaining complete and quality records.
