The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries is seeking forward-thinking, dynamic applicants for the position of University  Archivist.  Reporting to the Head of Special Collections, this position provides leadership in the management and use of the university's archival records through the application of modern collection management techniques, creation of standards-based finding aids, digitization, performing reference and instructional services, and outreach activities.

This position acquires, appraises, and processes university archives collections, including arrangement, description, and the creation of MARC and EAD records for inclusion in local, regional, and national databases; identifies items requiring preservation and conservation work and coordinate such activities, and monitor storage conditions; provides reference assistance in support of the academic and research uses of the collection, assisting patrons find materials relevant to their research; create digital content from university archives collections according to departmental specifications with appropriate metadata to ensure discoverability; initiates outreach and instruction to teach library users how to effectively and efficiently locate information, appropriate research methodologies, and specific resources and discovery tools; engages in outreach activities, products, and events that encourage faculty, staff, and the general public to use university archives collections and services; and supervise interns and volunteers.

Minimum qualifications for the position include ALA accredited MLS degree with advanced course work in archival theory and methodology or a Master's degree in archival administration or a Master's degree in history or another humanities field with an emphasis on archival administration.  Successful candidates are expected to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills with the ability to prepare instructional materials.  Candidates are also expected to be able to evaluate materials based on their historical knowledge, be knowledgeable of modern archival descriptive practices, particularly minimal processing, and have the organizational abilities to manage diverse projects.  Other requirements include a minimum of one year with cataloging in MARC, application of DACS, creation of EAD finding aids, and bulk digitization with Dublin Core metadata; and one year experience of working with records retention schedules.
Preferred qualification includes expertise in teaching or bibliographic instruction.
Salary: $43,104 (flexible, depending on qualifications). This is a full-time A&P, benefits-eligible position.
