I am fairly new at a company with a retention schedule that was completed a few years ago. I plan to do legal research in the Spring to address changes and add or combine categories as necessary. In the energy world, I think you should review changes to law or reporting requirements every year, but overall perhaps every 5 years. You could base review on organizational change. In medical businesses, I would say keep an eye on the news.
 
Thanks for asking this question. I would also like to find best practices for energy companies if you have any information!

Hi all, just curious how often people feel they need to do a legal / regulatory refresh on their retention schedules, for records series that haven't changed.  Just sort of trying to gauge an industry average.
