First, let me say that I receive the digest version so I am usually a day or two late.  I have been lurking for about 6 months after a many, many year hiatus.


At my former employer, we had an in-house records center and were required to comply with NARA guidelines.  It took a team with member from internal audit, compliance, properties and records many months to gain certification.  This space was leased so it required capital improvements that were not inexpensive.  

Basically, the auditor was the key representative from our organization and worked very closely with the individual at NARA.  One of the most challenging issues was interpreting the guidelines.  Everyone in our organization seemed to have a differing opinion so we relied heavily on the auditor and NARA contact to sort these out.

It can be done but the requires a lot patience, attention to detail, money, and superior recordkeeping.
