Subject: Re: [RM] The Obsolete Man and Open Record

Well, I've been off the listserv quite awhile for other reasons and I come back to find that...oh no...it's becoming a "message or massage" board for politics????!!!

I do think that as well meaning as some may be, you won't get anywhere trying to keep folks (who've obviously made it a
"pasttime") from interjecting political hodge podge into their comments (short of barring them from the listserv). They're going to do it wherever they find a supposed audience. Heck, you ever try to keep an avid golfer from talking about golf, an avid musician off the stage, an avid racer off the track? You all know that this "political ranting," which historically has always been a pasttime for some, has for whatever reason become seemingly more pervasive as a pasttime today. I'm thinking it may soon become an Olympic sport!!! I suspect, and I'm certainly not a psychologist, sociologist, nor a historian, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with where our society has evolved to at this point in our history. Perhaps our brains are evolving to a point where we're less "creative and imaginative." I don't know....

So anyway, I think the easiest solution is our tried and true reaction of just deleting without reading as soon as we realize where the post is going. And I think we're all used to that in online communicaton. Heck I used to do it all the time to my ex's emails! ;-) In fact I'll stop writing now because most of you probably deleted my post before even getting to this line! And unfortunately if you've gotten to this point you've gone way to far because this is the end!

Have a great day,
Gus
