*Larry said, "Huh?"*
-----------

I take it as a compliment that I was able to confuse Larry ;)

Larry – I realize back-up tape *should* only be used for DR purposes.
However, hypothetically speaking, if a company currently uses tape more as
long-term storage (for email) rather than strictly back up, then the normal
recycling of data doesn’t apply.

With that said, this company, in my mind, has the following options in
handling this data:

1) Truly use the tapes as back up and recycle per policy (all data
goes away).

2) Set a retention period for this data where data having met this
requirement is deleted and the remaining information is restored to an
active storage environment where it can be readily searched and acted upon.

3) All data is restored from tape, integrated with email management
system and managed going forward according to the email retention policy.

Other thoughts??
