In response to Susan's request for filing equipment standards for a new facility, your architect should also be aware of floor load issues with filing cabinets. I've noticed in the past that architects usually specify space for lateral cabinets instead of open shelf cabinets, which are much more space efficient. However, they weigh more than the lateral cabinets because they hold more... high density open shelf file equipment weighs a lot more and needs special consideration.
