                                                                        Director Archives and Records - Williamsburg, Virginia

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia is seeking candidates with proven management abilities and extensive direct work experience beyond the journey level to fill a vacancy for director archives and records.

Job Description
Primary duties of the director include:
Serve as the central resource for the retention and disposition of Foundation documents.

Appraise the value of documents generated by the Foundation (for their administrative, legal, fiscal and historical value) and establish guidelines for retention of permanent, vital, and non-permanent records.

Establish and communicate records management policies and procedures for the Foundation

Establish and implement cost effective means to preserve, store, retrieve, and disposition all permanent and non-permanent records.  An understanding of the Foundation's organization and history, current paper and electronic records, use of current technology in the industry for managing electronic records, and ability to grasp and work with future technological changes at the Foundation are of significant importance.

Ensure that all permanent and vital records are obtained for central storage or backed up.

Work with key departments in communicating the importance of archives and records and in obtaining their cooperation.

Respond to requests for information from the Archives by internal and external researchers.

Conduct research in the Archives for senior management and present results orally and in writing.

Supervise the Archives and Records staff; establish and track progress of goals; establish and continuously improve upon high levels of productivity, staff development, and teamwork.

Administer, prepare, and monitor the Archives and Records' annual departmental operating and capital budgets.

Direct the Foundation's oral history program.
