Meeting announcement: Metro NYC ARMA Chapter Meeting -- Monday, September 16th, 2013, 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

TOPIC: 5 Things Records Management/Information Governance (RMIG) Can Learn From Litigation (and 5 Things You Can Teach Them)

Session Description: Litigation management and records management are converging quicker than most people realize. RMIG are seeking to prevent future risk and exposure, while Litigation are dealing with past problems. Where Litigation teams have long since mastered document content analysis, hourly labor expense management and removal of irrelevant material, RMIG teams bring stronger skills in information and process management, with a specific eye towards standardization, re-use and return-on-investment justifications. Now, if these two groups could pool their historical information, experience and cultures, we'd all be better off for it.

This presentation lays out the most important lessons each group can teach the other. The lessons derive from actual, real-world projects and cases Valora has participated in from the Litigation side of the house, and others from the RMIG side. For those General Counsel groups seeking the best possible practices for information and document management across the board, we recommend you take to heart both sides of the best practices catalogued here.

Speaker bio: Sandra E. Serkes - Ms. Serkes is one of Valora's original founders and a driving force in the company. Responsible for setting long-term strategic direction and ensuring short-term revenue and profitability goals, she takes a very active, day-to-day executive role in the company. Ms. Serkes has been a dynamic senior manager, individual contributor and role model since the company's inception in 2000. In her twelve years as President & Chief Executive Officer, the company has grown over 1200%, remained profitable since 2003, and received numerous awards and accolades, most recently being named to Inc. Magazine's annual list of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. Ms. Serkes recently presented at the American Records Management Association (ARMA International) national conference and has served on the national Board of Directors of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals (ALSP).

A Harvard Business School MBA and MIT Sloan School of Management graduate, Ms. Serkes is a frequent industry speaker and panelist. She is an active participant of the Women Presidents Organization, MIT Enterprise Forum, the Massachusetts Software Council and the Network of Harvard Alumnae and serves on the boards of several technology-related start-ups. In her spare time, she coaches soccer, is Music Director for the annual school play, and serves on the executive board of a 501(c)(3) non-profit childcare organization.
