Surprised to see this Patent filing had no list of definitions, which would
be critical to the value of this filing.

Many of us who work with CLASSIFIED RECORDS will argue that to refer to
'categories' of records as 'classification schemes' goes against the grain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classified_information (Not my favorite source
for definitions, but one many find easier to understand)

ALL records can be 'categorized' by an established, common, scheme and set
of guidelines that most individuals, organizations and industries can agree
upon... but this has nothing to do with the "classification" of a record,
based on the sensitivity of the information it contains.

This is yet another term that IT has hijacked and is misusing when it comes
to information and what is done/what to do with it.

- Categorized information is NOT CLASSIFIED information.
- Archived data is not data managed in an ARCHIVAL fashion.
- Backup tapes/datasets are not ARCHIVED information.

There are others, but these three are the most problematic when it comes to
discussing how an ERMS or ECMS segregates, stores and manages data and
records.

They continually cause confusion in discussions between IT and RM. And
while IT seems to think they "own" this terminology, they fail to
comprehend that it is records management practices, based on statutes,
regulations and other guidance that determine HOW records and information
must be managed by the tools they deploy and administer.
