One thing that amazes me is that when you ask Owners or the records managers a few obvious questions, they never seem to know the answers. Can you honestly answer these questions?

Is your storage facility in the 500 year Flood Plain?
Is it in the 100 year Flood Plain?
Do you own a U.S. Geologic Map that shows this information? Can you predict future flood patterns?

Do you have an evacuation plan if the area you are in requires an evacuation?

Define the risks to your facility? Flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, snow loads?
Was the building designed for these risks.

What is the bottom shelf height off the floor?

When was the last time the sprinkler system was tested? How old is the system?
(20% of all sprinkler systems are not even turned on! Check to see if yours is on? )

When was the last time you had a varmint/bug guy out?

When was the last time the Fire Department came out to look at your facility and discuss how you would fight a fire?

Who wants to bet $1,000 that you would fail in several categories.

I remember when a Tornado struck the FBI Building in Fort Worth and tore the glass off the building and their file room was sucked out into the Texas skyline. Imagine if that was medical records HIPAA Cha Ching!
