It all boils down to "making money"...As long as conferences are a revenue stream, ARMA will be using venues that supposedly bring them the "best bang" for its buck.  I harken back to the old days of more intimate towns and environments, but it looks like we're staying with larger and more costly venues.  Only time will tell...

"In regards to Larry's last point, one of the dirty secrets of conferences the world 'round is that it is not uncommon for more revenue to come from the vendor side than from attendees. Less vendors = more expensive either for the remaining ones or for the attendees or both, which can produce a vicious downward spiral for one or both. You can remedy this somewhat with a smaller space, but there are still certain fixed costs which have to be covered somehow. AIIM does this with a smaller vendor footprint in terms of number and booth size. MER does this with higher costs for both vendors and attendees. Either way you pays your money and you takes your chances."
