With all things, of course, it's a trade-off. We lived in Scotland for
about 5 years & found that it was very convenient to have our health
records centralized - any doctor or hospital could see the entire file,
with notes, etc. There were numerous benefits to this, of course
(changing physicians was a non-issue because the files weren't
controlled by the physician; going to the hospital didn't involve trying
to remember what medications you were taking, etc.).

Of course, they're crazy people who have universal healthcare and free
prescription medicine.
