Thank you, Mary, for pointing out that, while rare, we do exist.

The thing about "IT people" is that the vast majority of them regard 
storage systems as repositories, and archiving as simply backup for 
indefinite retention.  Not all of us, however, are so simplistic in our 
understanding.

Of course, I find myself to be the lone voice for retention AND 
DESTRUCTION planning, on any project, and that's been true for the past 
20+ years.
