Wayne Hoff asked: “where do works in progress go?”

Wayne, when our Legal Department moved from its shared drives to SharePoint, the General Counsel and MIS decided to “freeze” the shared drives, instead of moving the contents wholesale to SP.

What this meant in practice was that documents on the shared drive could be opened, but could no longer be saved there; if the user wanted to continue working with the document, he/she had to declare and move it to the SP site (and add the appropriate metadata).

It works pretty well; the only hitch is there’s still a company-wide shared drive, so some recalcitrant users just move their files there…..

Hope you’re having a good summer up in Calgary!

Fred
