No doubt I will be over-simplistic, but PIN-to-PIN is a direct
communications mode from one Blackberry user to another. It's true purpose
is to ensure communications in the advent of a network or carrier outage. It
is instant, similar to instant messaging in speed.
Each Blackberry has a unique PIN or personal identification number - an
address so to speak. PIN-to-PIN communications has powerful uses in
emergency situations. I think of it much like short wave radio or morris
code (remember the messages sent out towards the end of the movie
"Independence Day" when the bad-dude aliens had commandeered the Earth's
satellites and the good guys used old style morris code?).
