allow us to scan all our contracts and keep the image as the
official record.

My concern here is the format on which you will keep the image. Is it
microfilme ( oh my gosh do people still use that) or optical disk or a CD. Will
you be able to read the documents later?

"Our Accounting Division wants to scan the back-up documentation for
accounting transactions and destroy all paper copies afterwards. Is
there any reason -- legal or otherwise -- which would preclude the
destruction of all paper copies?

So many companies all over the country are scannign accounting documents to
CD's, it is probably no problem since they have a shorter retention period
than say your Blood Donor Record that is forever.
