Gus,
Shredding may be the right approach, or it may be something you decide is
better "outsourced"...... I'll let others address 'in-house' approaches, but
if you decide to look for someone outside the University, I'd recommend
spending some time on the NAID site. NAID has a certification program for
its participating/member companies for destruction, and may be a source of
useful information.

Subject: [RM] shredding
I am doing some research for my organization regarding shredding records
prior to sending them to a recycling facility. I'd appreciate knowing
what some of you are doing in this regard.
In particular, since we are a public university, I would be interested
in hearing from any of you at other colleges and universities. Do you
(records management) shred records prior to disposal? All records?
Have a vendor with industrial shredder handle the shredding? Have your
own industrial shredder? Etc.... Just a brief explanation of your
disposition process-if shredding is a part of that-would be greatly
appreciated.
As usual, thanks in advance for any info you can share.
