Laura,

Good point..... historically, the reliance on hand-counting of paper
ballots has been the most ineffective method of counting votes, and has
been very much prone to human error.  For the "paper backup" for the
electronic systems, at least there will be little "dispute" over voter
intent .... You should see how voters marked their old paper ballots and
optical scan ballots in past elections!

I thought it was interesting that if there was a call for a recount they
won't trust the machines, they will count paper trails that the machines
leave.  Doesn't this leave room for human error?  Also in many places
there are so many absentee voters who didn't have confidence that they
have lots of paper to count anyway.
