Thanks for the info. I will make sure that I put my email address with
my name.
As to the other, I am a subcontractor at a federal agency. We don't have
any classified records but do have confidential and sensitive. All the
regulations I have been able to find state that the shred must be no
more than 1/4 inch strip cut, but I cannot find anything on whether it
is ok to send it to Mexico for recycling.

Mike - Welcome first of all. One point of order - some might request an
e-mail address in addition to a name in the signature box in case they
might
wish to communicate off the list. Some people do not see the addresses
in
the header.
As to your question, a bit more information might be helpful, such as
are
the records that are shredded in any way confidential, sensitive, etc.?
Is
this a federal, state or local government agency? The more information
the
better. You might also consult the agencies regulations or guidelines
(some
agencies have good intranet information on records management, but
guessing
this is not the case where you are or you would not be asking us).

Subject: [RM] Shredding
Hi everyone. This is my first posting so if I mess it up please let me
know.
I work at a government facility where we send records that are due to be
destroyed out to be shredded. I have recently found out that the
shredding
company sells the shred to a company in Mexico for recycling. Does
anybody
know if there is a regulation that prohibits this from happening? Any
help
would be appreciated.
