India's New Data Privacy Rules' Impact On Corporate Compliance
Most of us knew that stricter privacy laws were coming that would impact
U.S. companies doing business abroad. What we didn’t foresee is that these
new privacy measures would come from India. In April 2011, India introduced
new privacy legislation known as Information Technology (Reasonable security
practices and procedures and sensitive personal data or information) Rules
2011. The goal of these new regulations is clear – protect consumer privacy.
Nevertheless, how these rules will be implemented is causing confusion and
we do not fully know how these new rules will impact U.S. companies.
