Hi Angie,

It looks like you did a really nice job with the email. Congratulations!
There's not many really good success stories out there. Your point 5 sums
it all up.

I'd be interested in your PowerPoint slides.

Thanks,
Charlie

Subject: Sharepoint 2010 Implementation

Well, I finally took the next step in my Sharepoint implementation and took
down the sacred cow...email. It's going well! I've developed a couple of
power point instruction guides if anyone is going in that direction and
needs some ideas.

Lessons learned:

1. Remind the users constantly about what is going to happen. Give
them easy to use instructions with pictures. Give lots of reassurance
regarding security.

2. Be sure that you are aware of whether or not you are hosting any
email caches on your servers before hitting the delete button. In a joint
venture, the email in question may not be your company's email, but if it is
on your server, it is discoverable.

3. If you are managing email in a vault and leaving a "stub" in the
users email box, be sure to remind them to open the emails in order to save
them...don't drag and drop stubs because that only saves a useless
shortcut...not the actual email.

4. Security, security, security! Did I mention security? Be sure to
take away user ability to delete or change items after they are archived.
Sharepoint can be notoriously hard to lock down so you have to do
destructive testing in order to make sure that you know what your users can
and cannot do. And, trust me, they find some pretty amazing ways to get
around business rules...LOL!

5. Users don't really care that much about records management...they
just want to get to what they need. Don't overwhelm them with too many
choices about classifications. Keep it simple.

Warmest regards,

Angie Fares
