Brian,

Congratulations.  A former colleague of mine got me involved in riding a
few years ago after my knees couldn't take the beating from running.  His
words of wisdom to me on my first ride " It doesn't matter how long it
takes you to finish a ride as long as you finish."

Four flats - that is a lot!  I've had two during a 100 mile ride and felt
snake-bit.  A good bike can make all of the difference especially riding
long distance.  You may pay more but you will find the money well spent
especially if you take up the sport.

If you decide to ride next year let me know - I might join you...
