We have microfilm from the late 70's that contains our plant records. We store them in a vault separate from any other paper, plastic, cardboard, rubber bands, etc. (as much as possible). We maintain our vault humidity between 20%-30% and temperature less than 70 degrees. Once a year, we pull samples and inspect them for deterioration. We almost always find some redox (deterioration), but has not been severe. We do check for vinegar syndrome as well. While we have considered digitizing the rolls, it would be very expensive, and microfilm should last a long time.

Any media you choose has its problems, so whatever you do, you have to be vigilant :)
