Jan - there are dozens of vendors. If you look at some of their sites (Look for ECM or Records Management) you may be able to get a Gartner report for free. This may help point you. I would also google Sharepoint versus Open Text or Alfresco etc... This will start to give you different perspectives and help you further refine your requirements.

Good Luck.
John

Subject: Re: Share Point Question

Hello Jan,

SharePoint is being used as a records repository in several organizations.

When it was first released, SharePoint was solely a collaboration tool, but the product has come a long way in recent years.

Currently, many use it with an add-on for the Records Management piece, but I'm hearing that SharePoint 2015 may come with the Retention module out of the box (unconfirmed rumour).

Personally, I plan on evaluating SharePoint 2015 in comparison to the OpenText product, for my organization's EDRMS solution.

Hope that helps!

-Akif

Subject: Share Point Question

I have been told that Share Point is not considered to be records repository but is a collaboration tool. There are a lot of reasons but mostly that there is no revision control, etc. What do those of you in list-serv land think or do you have some official edict that says the same thing? Just trying to pulse the field.
