There’s no need to look any further than this week’s accidental tweet by
Anthony Noto
<http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/25/technology/twitter-cfo-dm-fail/index.html?hpt=hp_t3>,
Twitter’s CFO, to understand why social media can be a simultaneous
blessing and curse for companies. Noto’s tweet, which he apparently thought
he was sending as a private message to another Twitter employee, disclosed
some information
<https://twitter.com/kevinroose/status/537024640825032705/photo/1> about an
unnamed possible acquisition target for Twitter.

Not all embarrassing social media incidents at a company will make
headlines the way Noto’s did, but it is important that all organizations
think carefully about policies and procedures with regard not only to
social media use, but to how social media information is used, stored and
processed.

"The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of
laissez-faire, unbridled competition.
They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the
umbrella of federal regulations."
Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
