Program: ARMA Metro Maryland is proud and honored to feature a rareopportunity to hear esteemed and recently retired Federal Magistrate Judge(John M. Facciola) in an exclusive March Chapter Dinner Meeting. Judge Facciolawill delineate the challenges of applying e-Discovery law and the process, itsimplications for Records and Information Management (RIM), as well as the fieldof Information Governance. Info Managers will benefit from his uniqueperspective of the court coming from a recently active judge with decades ofexperience in all aspects of the e-Discovery process. Bring your GeneralCounsels and IT folks to this one!! You will learn how information managementand requisite tools are used during the e-Discovery process and how RIMpractitioners have observed the development and use of tools in the legalcommunity for e-discovery and how cataloging a body of unstructured documentsis similar to experiences during legal electronic discovery process. JudgeFacciola has been a pioneer legal scholar in helping to shape those tools inthe e-Discovery world. He is a nationally renowned dynamic speaker on mattersrelated to the use of tools for e-Discovery and Information Governance. JudgeFacciola will discuss the common challenges (digital vs. paper) in applyinge-Discovery Law and the process; use of tools for enabling e-Discovery and thelessons learned from over a decade of experience; benefits and hazards of currentpractices for RIM; the future of e-Discovery tools; and RIM best practices.


 
About our Speaker: Judge John M. Facciola is a recently retired (12/1/14)Federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Districtof Columbia. He was appointed to this position in 1997. Judge Facciola receivedhis A.B. from College of the Holy Cross and his J.D. from Georgetown UniversityLaw School, and began his legal career as an assistant district attorney. Hethen went into private practice until he joined the United States Attorney'sOffice in 1982. In 1989, he became chief of the Special Proceedings Section,where he served until joining the federal court. His judicial career began whenhe joined the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in1997. The United States District Court for the District of Columbia is theUnited States district court that hears cases originating in the District ofColumbia with jurisdiction in the federal courts. The District Court for theDistrict of Columbia has original jurisdiction over cases filed in the Districtof Columbia. These cases can include civil and criminal matters that fall underfederal law.
