Hello list subscribers,

I am new to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation government in the Yukon as the Information and Records Management Administrator and would really like to connect with others who manage the records of self-governing aboriginal nations.

Specifically, I would appreciate hearing who has ultimate authority for approving retention schedules, i.e. final dispositions. There are no schedules in place here yet and no framework for approval; I don't consider my single judgement adequate, even with my archives degree. Do schedules go all the way to an executive council/chief and council etc. for approval? Has anyone involved an archivist in appraising the archival value of aboriginal records? or is the decision made from within the community?

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Best regards,

Carolyn Harris
