Program: ARMA Metro Maryland isproud and honored to feature a rare opportunity to hear esteemed and recentlyretired Federal Magistrate Judge (John M. Facciola) in an exclusive March ChapterDinner Meeting. Judge Facciola will delineate the challenges of applyinge-Discovery law and the process, its implications for Records and InformationManagement (RIM), as well as the field of Information Governance. Info Managerswill benefit from his unique perspective of the court coming from a recentlyactive judge with decades of experience in all aspects of the e-Discoveryprocess. Bring your General Counsels and IT folks to this one!! You will learnhow information management and requisite tools are used during the e-Discoveryprocess and how RIM practitioners have observed the development and use oftools in the legal community for e-discovery and how cataloging a body ofunstructured documents is similar to experiences during legal electronic discoveryprocess. Judge Facciola has been a pioneer legal scholar in helping to shapethose tools in the e-Discovery world. He is a nationally renowned dynamicspeaker on matters related to the use of tools for e-Discovery and InformationGovernance. Judge Facciola will discuss the common challenges (digital vs.paper) in applying e-Discovery Law and the process; use of tools for enablinge-Discovery and the lessons learned from over a decade of experience; benefitsand hazards of current practices for RIM; the future of e-Discovery tools; andRIM best practices.


 
Aboutour Speaker:Judge John M. Facciola is a recently retired (12/1/14) Federal magistrate judgefor the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He wasappointed to this position in 1997. Judge Facciola received his A.B. fromCollege of the Holy Cross and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School,and began his legal career as an assistant district attorney. He then went intoprivate practice until he joined the United States Attorney's Office in 1982.In 1989, he became chief of the Special Proceedings Section, where he serveduntil joining the federal court. His judicial career began when he joined theUnited States District Court for the District of Columbia in 1997. The UnitedStates District Court for the District of Columbia is the United Statesdistrict court that hears cases originating in the District of Columbia withjurisdiction in the federal courts. The District Court for the District ofColumbia has original jurisdiction over cases filed in the District ofColumbia. These cases can include civil and criminal matters that fall underfederal law.
