This is to my friends in the Legal community. Do you include non-billing professionals in your ethical walls? Do you bar Legal Assistants, support folks such as Accounting, IT, and Records? If you limit ethical walls to billing personnel only does that include Paralegals and Attorneys or Attorneys only?
I am questioning the ethical consideration that would extend to the support/non-billing personnel. As they have taken no oath on ethics how would they be bound? Does anyone know of opinions, rules, or regulations that dictate inclusion of non-billing personnel? If so, where does that end? How would you really even wall a Records, IT, or Accounting position that has full access to all client information?
Thanks for any opinions on this topic.
