its suppliers after an eight-week trial in Chicago.
The jury in U.S. District Court awarded the supplier, Miller UK Ltd., about
$74 million in damages on Friday.

Caterpillar stole trade secrets from its supplier, Miller U.K. Ltd., when
it copied a Miller design for a coupling device that links heavy buckets to
hydraulic digging machines, the jury found on Friday at the end of a
two-month trial in Chicago's federal court.

The suit was filed five years ago, but the allegations date back to 2008
when Caterpillar stopped purchasing products from the company.
The jury awarded the British firm compensation after Caterpillar was found
guilty of producing couplers used in excavating operations that were based
