Utah officials dedicate new State Archives Building
Storage: The state-of-the-art facility in Salt Lake City will help
preserve important historical documents for future generations
The facility is also the first archives in the United States to
feature an "automatic storage-automatic retrieval" system, which entails
the use of tall steel frames holding metal shelving containing boxes of
archival materials. Shelves are retrieved with robotic machines on
tracks, allowing for a densely stored, yet rapidly accessible collection
of state documents, said project architect Allen Roberts.
