"It's time for my firm to update our records retention policy. What
works better--accumulate all the minor updates and publish them all
together in a major update, or simply plug in the revisions
incrementally as we go?"

Gary.....In our organization the policy and the schedule are always being
changed. As soon as policy is changed, it becomes effective immediately.
Periodically, we gather those changes and e-mail staff identifying changes
or publish it within a records newsletter. The same applies to our
schedule in that changes become effective immediately. Yearly, the
schedule and the policy is approved by our executive committee.
Consultation with staff who authored or use those records has been
ongoing, so they are aware of changes.

Our goal is to try to keep staff informed and not hide anything....be
transparent.
