Since our retentions are set by the State for local governments, they
may not be pertinent to your research. However, I can offer a
description of how we categorize the training records. We track all
training using a software product called "Training Wizard." Sign-in
sheets are used for entry into the tracking database. Currently, all
entry into the training database is maintained indefinitely. We are
working on a purge process for terminated employees. Other records are
kept as follows:
OSHA, VA Dept. of Health, and other regulatory required training
- records are kept as long as the regulation requires. This varies by
regulation. If the training is to maintain certification of an
individual, it is filed in the employee file.
Internal policy training - records are kept until the policy is
revised and new training is conducted.
Professional development training such as software or operating
system training, seminars, conferences, supervisory training, college
classes, and so on - record filed in employee personal file and retained
as part of the employee record.
