Hi,

At American Honda Motor Co., Inc., we are not seeing a reduction in the
amount of boxes (of paper records) sent to storage. In fact we increased
over last year. What we are seeing a reduction in is requests for inactive
records. Which leads me to believe that the information is online or in
electronic form in the departments and we should be seeing the reduction in
boxes sent to storage.

We also experienced a 20% decline in RUSH requests, which means that the
departments are better at foretelling their need for an inactive record, or
that they are keeping records at hand that they have a good chance of
needing (possibly in electronic format), or both.

I am 53 years old, and bring my laptop to meetings of the organization to
which I am secretary. I take the minutes electronically. The secretary of
my church, in his 80's, takes the minutes of the Board meeting on his
laptop while I'm doing the budget on mine, as treasurer. I have heard of
meetings where everyone has his or her laptop or PDA. I will admit however
that I print out paper sometimes, especially when I have 3 screens open in
different programs and am comparing data. The paper is my checklist which
is destroyed or filed to confirm that I have done the task, depending on
its importance.
