They certainly did collapse because of illegal actions, but the fact
that they destroyed records to hide their culpability, with support form
Arthur Anderson (which led to its demise) has had major repercussions.

Stephan, records keeping had nothing to do with the collapse of Enron.
Gross illegality did. The company would have collapsed regardless of the
quality of their records keeping practices.
