Speaking of executives in trouble for distroying records, yesterday's
Wall Street Journal had a front page article about the former CEO of
Gemstar-TV Guide International who admitted to deleting the contents
of his hard drive which "contained subpoenaed emails and accounting
documents the SEC suspected to be related to a meltdown that had wiped
billions of dollars off Gemstar's market value."

The twist on this case is that a U.S. federal judge ordered him to pay
$22.3 million to the government for fraudulently inflating revenues
between 2000 and 2002. Yet the government hasn't collected any of the
money and doesn't know where Mr. Yuen is. In addition, Mr. Yuen
agreed to plead guilty to a felony for illegally destroying evidence
but so far managed to avoid jail time or any other criminal penalties,
and currently faces no criminal charges.
