Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Sorry Peter, but I am not deleting Larry's definition and logic in this
particular posting. It matches mine, which makes it perfect, and bears
repeating. I am sick and tired of hearing from some RIM folks and
others "THE SKY IS FALLING" regarding email, and vendors bellying up to
the bar to sell them something (rehashed) that is not necessary.

Best regards, Steve

Rather than undertaking a serious rehashing of endless comments and
discussions on e-mail management and retention that have been held
here, the
first guidance I would give is:

E-mail is a CONVEYANCE system for information used by many individuals
and
organizations. IT IS NOT a record type or series. Retention periods
are
based on the CONTENT, not the container. A retention period should be
assigned to an e-mail if the content of the message rises to the
organization's definition of a record, and the retention should be
based on
the legal, regulatory, or statutory requirements to retain the
information
and take into consideration any business needs that may exceed that.
