I hauled off and pulled out a textbook...; 4th Edition of Information
and Records Management; Robek, Brown, and Stephens (Madke is an older
edition). I keep this around to help in training new staff.
"Accession A shipment of records received into the Records Center or
archives for storage and retrieval."
Unless Bill Benedon CRM sheds new light, or old whale-oil lamplight,
for a better term describing the antiquated media at that particular
point, then "accession" is it!
Back in the day, many, many moons ago, when we dealt with paper files a
lot, "file series" were records of a common file sequence and the same
record series in offices; accessions were file series belonging to the
same record series when transferred to offsite storage at the records
center.
I cannot believe I am spending this much effort on an old term for an
outdated, inefficient, and totally worthless dinosaur media.
I hate paper. Further, I darn near forgot some of these older terms.
Is this a low-down scheme? Larry Funky Cold Medina trying to drag me
back into the paper world?

I used to give an accession number to each group of records, as well.
So, that could be 1+ boxes and not necessarily one specific record
series or different record series with same retention periods.
