In doing an analysis of business activity (as recommended in ISO 15489),
a possible outcome might be to find a failure to create records which
document business processes.
Over the last several years (and not to sound like an old fogy), the
importance of taking minutes and documenting the business that has
transpired in meetings at a departmental level may have gone by the
wayside in many organizations. In many meetings, the minutes would
reflect virtually nothing of importance, raising the question of why the
meeting was convened in the first place. But at other times, the lack
of minutes and action items slows down the efficient pursuit of
solutions or goals.
The lack of any consistent practice in the creation of such records
probably compounds the difficulty in assigning a retention value.
