Please be aware that backup and disaster recovery has nothing to do with
retention of the records on these tapes (or whatever your storage media
is).  These are only the pathway to getting your organization up and running
after a disaster.

Many organizations will use the grandfather system for backup.  This means
that the records are written over long before the retention period is over.
