They have templates for Document management and Records Management.
This was an eye-opener for me and if I read correctly, will assist in
the management of electronic and physical records.

So to make it short:

SharePoint cannot assist with the management of your physical records
(Boxes, Videos, Microfilms, etc...)
And furthermore it is more difficult to manage your electronic records
with SharePoint, than it is with most other RM products. 

Please do not only look at SharePoint when considering the purchase of a
RM product.
SharePoint might be able to do RM, but I still believe that there are
products out there that do it better.

That is just my opinion, I could be right~
