Jesse,

I just enjoyed reading your WEB 2.0 "What does it mean and why does it
matter?" in the current AIIM magazine. I will keep it as a reference and
reread it. As someone who works with confidential student academic
information, I am concerned about the security/privacy of using some of
the WEB Apps like Google's docs and spreadsheets to share my data via
the web. I need to do some more exploration of these issues.

Thank you for the very insighful and educating article.

Tony

|Subject: [RM] Office 2.0 Conference in September 2007
|Hi all, and with apologies for cross-posting,
|I received notice about the 2007 Office 2.0 Conference and
|thought it would be of interest to some of you. Full
|disclosure - I am probably speaking there, topic to be finalized.
|If you're not familiar with it, it's an annual gathering of
|vendors, consultants, and users of "Office 2.0" technologies,
|including but certainly not limited to blogs, wikis, online
|project management and office suites, mindmapping
|technologies, and many others. It's a cross between a trade
|show and a practitioner symposium; the nice thing about many
|of the vendors is that they walk the talk, i.e. they blog,
|they have wikis, they participate, and they are "true believers".
|Lots of organizations are experimenting with these
|technologies and approaches; as some of you know, I have been
|working in this area for some time, particularly as it impacts
|RIM. But just as with any other system, I think it's too late
|to wait until the tools are in place to determine what that
|impact will be; and if you think it won't impact you, consider
|that Thinkfree , Zoho, and Google Apps are all credible
|replacements for Microsoft Office, at least for
|non-uber-power-users, and cost nothing or a tiny fraction of
|what Office costs. If you have lots of users, it can get
|expensive to upgrade, meaning that at least some of your
|organizations are already looking at these types of tools.
|The conference is scheduled for Sept 5-7, 2007 at the St.
|Regis Hotel in San Francisco. The cost of the conference is
|$995 before July 31 and $1,495 after that; AIIM and ARMA
|members will receive a discounted rate of $895 if you sign up
|before July 31. And here's the kicker: attendees will receive
|an iPhone. To keep. Seriously. You have to sign up for the
|voice/data plan, and it's only available through
|AT&T/Cingular, but it's a free iPhone! The intent is for
|attendees to collaborate, live and in realtime, using the
|iPhone's capabilities.
|Additional details can be found on the website/wiki at
|http://www.o2con.com/index.jspa. Not sure how much additional
|information I can provide, but happy to take any questions and
|if I can't answer them, I'll find someone who can.
|Regards,
