Interpretation of privacy laws can have consequences. Below are links to
the Virginia Tech shooting investigation report. What is interesting is
Chapter V - Information Privacy Laws. I think there is something to be
learned from this. Restricting information based on narrow
interpretations of the law is risky. Balancing privacy with safety is an
important issue. There are some recommendations for clarification of
privacy laws.
