Once again - let's play the "compliance" card to sell more software! In
their own words:
"This document explains how medical practitioners and healthcare
entities such as doctor's offices, clinics, hospitals, HMOs and
pharmacies can utilize document management software such as
KnowledgeTree to achieve compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act).
HIPAA consists of three parts:
1. A transactions part that is designed to get users to submit claims
electronically using X-12 based EDI claims submissions rather than on
paper and sets claims status, referrals, and eligibility; and
standardizes treatment codes. THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO KNOWLEDGETREE.
2. A privacy element that is designed to protect patients' medical
details,
3. A security element to make sure unauthorized persons cannot access
the data. "
To be compliant with 2 and 3, an organization must establish processes
and business rules along with policy and procedures. Software will not
do this for them. Number 1 seems to be software configuration oriented
- BUT this compliance requirement does not apply to the product!
