I have the ERM and ECM certificates (as I like to tease Jesse, certificates are different from certifications) and I found them most useful becuase they gave me a couple of nuggets of IT-related knowledge.  I also have the CRM and I'm proud of it.
   
  But folks, I think the big picture here is that none of that matters if you can't convince a colleague of the benefit of scanning project materials according to the standards of the RIM department.  If you live in a corporate culture like mine in which you have to earn your stripes every argument, every day, well--you know what I'm talking about (it could have something to do with the fact that records management influence begins at the front of the business process.   Other companies I've worked for, all business processes ended at the records department).
   
  As my career progresses, I'm of the mindset that the more certificates and certifications you have, the more impressive it is to potential employers, but once you're hired, you have to earn your credibility the old-fashioned way: through hard, hard work...
