Just wanted to say thanks to those who responded to my initial question, as the responses were certainly varied. I should say that I've accepted a position as the new (and first) records manager for Colonial Pipeline Company, a gas pipeline based in Alpharetta, GA. Colonial is a small, 50-year old company with most of the employees in field offices. Although I've been a records manager since 1983, this is the first opportunity I've had to start and build a RM program from the ground up for an organization.

Since I am more of an old school, traditional records manager, I'm looking to find ways to develop a program where the bulk of the users of operational records will be located in the field. Most of the administrative functions are handled at the corporate office, so of course I've got to consider those records too. Seems like it ought to be simple but I just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.

Thanks again to all who responded, it's much appreciated.
  Earl
